One day a Roman soldier is in the market of Gaul exchange his salt for some copper coins as the price of salt always dropped on the soldier's payday. He took the coins and bought a loaf of bread some cured pork three apples and a couple of carrots and wandered into the forest hoping to ketch a rabbit or two during his time off.
The soldier spent two days wandering in the forest without ketching anything until he came across a tall stone tower that had no doors to get in. He tried to climb the wall looking rather silly as he fell on the ground and he heard the sound of a woman laughing as he looked up and could see a young woman with long blond hair. He asked the woman how did you get way up there? and she replied that she had never been down there! While the lady of the tower he said " What is your name as you must be an angel that has fallen from the sky and locked up in this tower and she replied " Rapunzel" and he said, "I am Remus."
They talked all day and night as the soldier told her all about the world and his adventures. Then the soldier had to leave and promised he would come back and visit here and everytime the solder got paid he would take his leave and go see her. One day Remus was visiting her and said to her I wish so much I could see you Rapunzel what if I were to build a giant latter so I can climb up to the heavens to be with you and Rapunzel said I will throw you down my hair and you can climb up it so that you can see me but you must promise you are a gentleman and will not hurt me. and Remus promised as her flowing hair came down the side of the tower and touched the ground.
Remus climbed the hair to see the beautifulest woman he had ever seen as her hair covered over her entire body. Remus came visit her again and again and at the bottom of the tower he would say Rapunzel, Rapunzel won't you throw down your hair and he would climb up to see her bringing her gifts and wine and food to share.
One day Remus came to visit Rapunzel and said " my unit is moving out and sailing to Britannica" "Oh Remus will I ever see you again?"
"I have only one year of service left in the army and when I return we will buy a cabin along a lake and I will make you my wife"
"Remus Please hurry back to see me and be safe"
" I will Rapunzel and he asked her if he could cut a small piece of her hair to remember her by.
She said yes and looked scared as he cust a small piece of her hair off and watched as it turned to gold"
"What it this?" Said Remus
"Please do not be scarred my stepmother comes to cut my hair and says that if anyone were to find out they will kill me for my hair and that is why she keeps me locked up here" But now that you know Remus will you take the gold and use me like she does?
Remus promised her that he would return to see her and have all the strands of gold when he returned. As he walked away into the forest she wondered if she should ever see him again?
