To be immortal

To be immortal and live forever
To walk on earth that extra mile
I see it every day in the eyes of my children
in each lesson they learn that I learned with them

A million years to get to this pinnacle point
a billion bodies hidden in the bloodline
Now it all rests in their little eyes
to live on forever through a thousand lives

With the good graces of the earth and skies
I will stay to raise them until it is time
When I am old and gray and can smell the dirt soon to arrive
The earth will take my body one more time

To sleep the sleep of my ancestors
Knowing I never fit into the mold of life
When the paper is burned and the coins are melted
There is only one thing in life that really mattered
